A lot of experts picked Ole Miss to beat Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl… and they were right. The Rebels handed the Red Raiders a 47-34 beatdown in Texas Stadium. Michael Crabtree was almost non-existent, grabbing only 4 balls for 30 yards (though one was for a touchdown). He kept coming in and out of the game and couldn’t establish any momentum.

“Crabtree was a little bumped up today. I think that hurt him,” Tech quarterback Graham Harrell said. “He got his eye poked and couldn’t really see out of one eye. His eye looked bad. His ankle is a little bummed. It was just a tough day.”

The loss isn’t solely on the back of Crabtree. He played hard, the team as a whole was just out-played by Ole Miss.We did get a note from Crabtree’s father though about the injury:

“We’re just trying to see what’s wrong with it,” Michael Crabtree Sr. said. “We need to find a specialist so we can get it properly rehabbed.”

This was probably the last game we will see Michael Crabtree in college. It’s a shame he couldn’t go out on a high note.

The Cotton Bowl is just a few days away and will be played on January 2nd in Dallas, Texas. The Cotton Bowl is almost like a homecoming game for Texas Tech, who will be facing Mississippi. This will be the first time in Michael Crabtree’s career that he is playing against an SEC school.

Crabtree was on the injury report at the end of the regular season, but with 30+ days off he’ll be rested and ready to roll. He hasn’t had a 100 yard receiving game since November 1 against Texas. If Crabtree wants to go pro he’ll give it all he’s got in the Cotton Bowl to impress the scouts.

When asked about the NFL Crabtree responded, “I’m not worried about that right now. I’m worried about this Cotton Bowl. I choose not to think about anything else.”

Texas Tech is favored in this game, but don’t think they’ll run away with it. Ole Miss is a very good team, don’t forget they handed Florida their only loss. The Rebels play tough, pressure defense and will rush Graham Harrell like it’s nobody’s business. He’ll need to get the ball off quickly and find his best playmaker, Crabtree.

My prediction: Crabtree goes 8 receptiond 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Late in the first half of the Texas Tech vs. Baylor game on Saturday, superstar WR Michael Crabtree was injured.

A television replay showed he twisted his right ankle as he landed. He hobbled to the Red Raiders bench and a few minutes later was taken to the locker room on a motorized cart. Crabtree came out after the second half began with a boot on his right foot and limped along the bench talking with
teammates.

Prior to leaving the game, Michael had 9 receptions for 63 yards… not bad for only one half. He was kept out of the endzone again for the second game in a row.

Reports say that the ankle injury is just a sprain and not a break. Crabtree will have a month to rest up before Tech plays in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 2 likely against Mississippi.

The 10-1 Red Raiders went from being in the BCS Championship game to now the Cotton or Holiday Bowl… all from 1 loss. It’s tough to swallow.

The Sooner defense was too much for Tech’s offense. They limited Micahael Crabtree to 6 receptions for only 62 yards. One thing to note is Crabtree’s touchdown streak also came to an end.

Crabtree has probably played his final game as a collegiate athlete. There’s a chance that he may want to come back next year to see if he can win that ultimate prize (a National Championship ring), but odds are he won’t want to pass up on the guaranteed millions that come from being a top 10 NFL pick.

More to come on the Heisman situation…

Texas Tech is coming off a bye week, so they’ll be rested and ready for this game. The players and the fans all know what’s at stake with this game, but they’re not letting the media know it.

“I’m thinking about OU, that’s what I’m thinking about,” Crabtree said, dismissing the bigger BCS picture. “We take it one game at a time. It’s been working so far and I think I’m going to stay with that scheme.”

Michael Crabtree has scored a touchdown in every game this year, giving him 18 total. Everyone knows that Grahama Harrell is going to air it out on Saturday, and he will be looking for Crabtree. I’d expect Crabtree to bring in 9 catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns.

The Red Raiders are going to win this game. They have the better offense and a comparable defense. They’re last two wins came against Texas and Oklahoma State. They know how to play and win in the big games.

“I feel like every week we have something to prove,” Crabtree said. “We really don’t too much worry about what other people think. We worry about what we can control, and that’s us, and that’s our team.”

Crabtree finished the game with 8 receptions for 89 yards and 3 touchdowns. Michael Crabtree extended his streak of recording at least five receptions and a touchdown catch to 13 games, placing him in a tie for second-longest all time. Only Larry Fitzgerald is ahead of him (by 1 game).

You can definitely feel something special going on with the Red Raiders. It feels like destiny for them to be in the BCS Championship game. They are just playing at such a high level and keep beating ranked teams every week.

Now that they’ve found him, he’ll need to keep up the performance to please the fans.

Tomorrow at 8:00 PM EST on ABC, the No. 8 Oklahoma State Cowboys are headed into Lubbock to play the No. 2 Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Big 12 just keeps on delivering top 10 matchups. The Red Raiders are on such an emotion high, I just don’t see them letting up at all against the Cowboys. Their offense is just too prolific. There are no Big 12 teams that can stop them from scoring.

They’re going to try and limit what Crabtree does. The Cowboys have watched the game film and studied what other teams have done. They can try all they want, but there’s just no stopping this powerful receiver. Crabtree shines in primetime. I see him grabbing 9 balls for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns.

That final catch was just 1 of his 10 receptions for 127 yards. Crabtree just proved that he is the best wide receiver in college football. He looked like a man among boys on that last play. Most WRs would have caught the ball and ran out of bounds. Michael just shredded the defenders like children and ran it in for the score.

The fans then charged the field… even though there was 1 second left on the clock. It was an amazing game and awesome spectacle to see. The 9-0 Red Raiders are now No. 2 in the BCS Standings.

After big wins over Missouri and Oklahoma State, No. 1 Texas has another test ahead Saturday in Lubbock. But will No. 7 Texas Tech be able to knock off Mack Brown and the Longhorns? I think so. When you have Michael Crabtree lining up at wide receiver… anything is possible.

Last year against Texas, Michael Crabtree had 9 catches for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. If he can duplicate this performance against a No.1 team on national television… I just don’t know what I’d do. Everybody will be watching this game to see if the Red Raiders can knock Texas off their high horse. There’s going to be a lot of energy and emotions flowing.

I have a strange feeling this game could be a shootout just like last year’s 59-43 game. Except this year, if it’s a shootout, Texas Tech will be on the winning side. The Texas offense just won’t be able to keep up with Harrell and Crabtree.

The game is on at 8:00 PM EST and Texas is favored by 4 points. I like those odds. Give me a final score of 49-45, Red Radiers win! Crabtree will go 8 receptions for 145 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Crabtree ended the game with 9 receptions for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. Because Graham Harrell loves to spread the ball around, Crabtree has seen some of his produciton decerease this year. But that doesn’t matter as long as he’s scoring and the team is winning.

Michael may not come close to the number of receiving yards he had in 2007, but he does have 14 touchdowns so far this year, and will likely end up with 20+. I’m not sure if a WR from a major D-I school has ever gone back to back 20+ receiving touchdowns.

Here’s one of Crabtree’s scores from the game. This video is shot by a fan so it’s a little shaky. But at least you can hear the crowd.
