Will Michael Crabtree Start Week 1?

Do you think Michael Crabtree’s foot will be healthy enough to start week 1? 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows isn’t so sure he’s a lock to start.

Crabtree’s foot rehab and inexperience in the offense has him behind Josh Morgan at the “X.” Barrows expects the Niners to move Morgan or Crabtree to “Z” if they’re the top two receivers in training camp, but for now Crabtree is a backup with a lot to prove and a very talented player ahead of him.

Has there ever been a time when a WR taken in the top 10 did not start week 1… other than injury? If Crabtree is 100% ready to go I would expect him to be on the field the entire game. Inexperience for WRs isn’t as big of a problem as it may be for a quarterback. Crabtree can run routes and catch the ball better then anyone on the 49ers, even if he has never played a down in the NFL.

There have been plenty of rookie WRs to start day 1 and make an impact. What’s your take? Should they hold him back some, or let him loose?

I think crabtree should be our starting (x) and morgan our stating (z), and bruce at the slot on day 1. ya bruce(im a big crabtree fan, but bruce is a better route runner and has better hands right now) is a hall of famer and one of the best of all time, but he has lost a step and is not a true threat right now. i think an ideal depth for day one would be super crab and morgan and i think they are a duo to be reckoned with in a year maybe two. Im very excited to see super crab were that red and gold.

crabtree starting to look like a un needed addition at wideout jason hill is also very impressive and has that 4-3 speed to get down field for that threat to open up shorter routes. i like crabtree but at number 10 i think looking back were going to wish we took arakpo

Thats where ur a lil wrong, we didnt have a true #1 wr for the future before the draft, ya morgan is emerging and looking impressive, and hill is good but he more of a slot wr that can get deep. crabtree gives us that true #1 with morgan another guy that in a couple years could be a #1 for alot of teams. we now have a duo and a good slot wr(dont count bruce in this cuz this will be his last year.)orakpo was to stiff in his hips and was already fully grown, you dont want you 1st round pick to be maxed out physically. And the reason we didnt get orakpo, is cuz paris is coming off a 8sack season(tied with t.suggs) and lawson(a former 1st round pick) is getting his first shot for what he is good at and thats rushing the passer.(nolan used him as a coverage lb in his 4-3/3-4 hybrid system, and lawson was a de in college.)

The more the offseason goes on, i think you will see crabtree start day one at the x position(as long as he is healthy and picks the offense up), and morgan/bruce switch at the z. Singletary said that going into camp, they dont know who the #1 wr will be, meaning bruce is not the guy, and crabtree wont be on the field till training camp. Also so far is has not looked like bruce is there for the team, he is there for him and him only.(singletary notices that kind of thing.), and morgan started workin at the z position before the break for july……….Cant wait to see crab where that red & gold on gamedays……
