Week 3 of the NFL has all but come and gone and the San Francisco 49ers are still without their number 1 draft pick Michael Crabtree. There has been no progress in the negotiations either. At this point, I’m starting to believe Crabtree when he says he’ll re-enter the NFL Draft in 2010. I never thought it would really come to this.
One thing we recently learned though is that Michael Crabtree doesn’t need the NFL’s money (at least for this year). His agent Mike Ornstein came out and said Crabtree has made over $750,000 from marketing/sponsorship deals. Crabtree has deals with Subway, Jordan Brand, Upper Deck, Topps, etc.
“It is not that he doesn’t want to play, but he is not under the gun to,” Ornstein said.
This actually explains a lot. I’ve always wondered how unsigned rookies and holdouts who make no money can still live the lavish lifestyle of an NFL player.

You don’t have a stage then you can’t perform and who will respect Michael Crabtree numbers from college and hype with potential. Go right ahead Michael Crabtree and sit out the season because the pressure will only increase with people saying, he better be a star on the field for all this attention. If the NFL allows Crabtree to enter next years draft, what does it say to other college players not satisfied with their pick number? “I’m better than the 10th overall pick, even though I was drafted fifteen I deserve top 10 pay, I’m holding out because the team and NFL will fold.”
The NFL should make an example out of Crabtree. If a player holds out pass the deadline in order to reenter the draft, the NFL should not allow the player to be drafted past untill after the 3rd round.
The 49ers are showing that they really do not need Crabtree; even though they would probably be better offensively. Crabtree will regret his decision when he is watching the 49ers in the playoffs and he is sitting at home with is own foot in his ass.
The 49ers should sign him and trade him for a first round draft pick (Cleveland, Detriot, KC, Oakland, TB, Carolina) I’m sure some will decide they NEED him, because the 49ers don’t.

I love the way people slam Crabtree, probably people who have never played a down of football in their lives. These guys play the game for a job, not for our entertainment , yes our dollars are what pay their salaries but the team they sigh with can make or break their careers. San Fan is coached by a defensive play, they made no effort to sign a quarterback , I guess i can understand his concerns about going to San Fran, guy remember this is his life we are talking about not ours……….
